Throughout its history, the School of Public Administration has adapted its services, programs and structure to meet the changing needs of the public sector. A major example of this commitment is the development of the school into an intergovernmental network which includes permanent facilities in Los Angeles, Sacramento and Washington, D.C. With resident faculty and staff at the three principal governmental levels -- local, state, national -- the school is in a unique position to engage with the governmental process at each level and among levels. The intergovernmental network provides numerous educational, research and training opportunities.
The academic programs of the school provide a variety of degree opportunities. There are also special community service programs that carry degree credit. These programs are designed to serve the needs of professionals engaged in public service who desire an organized plan of study which will bring together for their benefit the resources of the university and the practical knowledge of persons in public positions; individuals preparing for careers in public administration, in research and in the performance of official functions in international, national, state and local public agencies; college students and adults interested in broad training and preparation for the duties and practices of citizenship; and persons preparing for academic careers in institutions of higher learning.
