Degree Requirements
Educational Program Objectives
Fulfilling the vision of the Sonny Astani Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, the Viterbi School of Engineering and the University of Southern California, our graduates are expected to perform competently, collaboratively and ethically using the knowledge and skills imparted to them in their program of studies:
(1) Planners, Designers, Constructors and Operators of the Built Environment
Graduates will be successful in their professional career, adapt to the rapid pace of technological and scientific development, and become global leaders in industry, academia or government.
(2) Stewards of Society’s Impact on the Natural Environment
Graduates will contribute their knowledge of global and societal issues, energy effective systems, and environmental considerations to create a safe and healthy world and affect public policy.
(3) Leaders and Managers of Society’s Project
Graduates will be effective communicators, with multi-disciplinary and collaborative skills and the ability to foster a productive and efficient work environment.
(4) Professional Engineers and Role Models
Graduates will uphold high ethical and professional standards, be active in professional organizations, support the advancement of the practice of science and engineering and when appropriate, obtain a professional license.
(5) Innovators and Integrators of Ideas and Technology
Graduates will be prepared to pursue graduate studies in engineering and other disciplines, and will engage in lifelong learning to broaden their abilities, enhance their technical skills and maintain their relevance with technological change.
All curricula leading to a degree must be approved by the Astani Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering; please note this includes transfer credit and units for courses waived for subject credit only, which have been approved through the Degree Progress department.
