Courses of Instruction

The Marshall School of Business is a multipurpose, professional school that built its reputation on a commitment to excellence and a concern for responding to the needs of the world of business. Its commitment remains to relevance and a continuing concern for quality. The historic mission of the school has been to prepare effective professional managers for entry into practice as leaders in the business world.

The school's location in Los Angeles, the heart of one of the world's greatest business centers and an area world-famous for innovation and growth, provides students the opportunity to work closely with the business community and to bridge the gap between the classroom and the actual scene of business enterprise.

The school has evolved a useful working relationship with the business and industrial leaders of Southern California. Instruction by faculty is supplemented by visits from operating executives in a wide variety of local business and industrial concerns. Because many class projects are based on real-world problems, students are invited to visit industrial and business firms for observation and also attend association and trade meetings in Los Angeles. Many of the faculty take part in business activities, both as members and officers of professional organizations and as consultants to business.

Curricular programs and research commitments of the school are subject to constant review in an effort to keep abreast of the values, motivations, goals and needs of business enterprise and of students who are destined to become managers of private enterprise in an age of rapid change.

The curricula are increasingly oriented to the integration of knowledge, current issues and practical problem solving. Courses are offered in innovative formats which include integrated programs, simulated environments and field studies.

The school's learning methods are supported in every way possible by faculty and student research, computing centers, management and behavioral laboratories, a learning services center and individual student career counseling.
