The Joint Educational Project places university students in supervised, community-service positions as a part of their academic course work. Students registered in certain classes in the Departments of Earth Sciences, Geography, International Relations, Sociology, Spanish, and other disciplines are assigned to inner-city schools, libraries, hospitals and health clinics, and similar sites, where they assist professionals, teach, translate, and make other contributions to individuals in the local community. Students are required to submit weekly reflective pieces helping them to make connections between their academic course work and their experiences in the community.
