The Department of Exercise Science offers undergraduate and graduate degrees in an area that can be described as the scientific foundation of human movement. It is a discipline which combines sport or physical activity with science. The use of physiological, biochemical, biomechanical and psychological principles are support areas from which the course work has been developed.

The degree program is tightly linked to other natural sciences and mathematics departments and culminates with students having completed a diversified science degree. The scientific focus also provides the background necessary for the student to continue on toward scientific research as a graduate. Graduate programs allow for M.S., M.A. and Ph.D. degrees. Graduate specialization areas include exercise physiology, biomechanics and sports psychology. The department also offers an undergraduate minor in exercise science.
