Keck School of Medicine of USC
Founded in 1885, the Keck School of Medicine of USC is a major center of medical research, education and patient care with more than 1,200 full-time faculty members and a voluntary faculty of more than 3,800 physicians. Located on the university's 30.8-acre Health Sciences campus three miles northeast of downtown Los Angeles, it is adjacent to the Los Angeles County+USC Medical Center, one of the largest teaching hospitals in the United States. Faculty of the school include national leaders in each of its 25 clinical and basic science departments.
Keck's faculty, students and residents serve more than one million patients each year through the Los Angeles County+USC Medical Center, the USC Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center and Hospital, USC University Hospital, Doheny Eye Institute, Childrens Hospital Los Angeles, and a network of additional USC-affiliated hospitals throughout Southern California. Several hundred faculty physicians comprise The Doctors of USC, caring for patients with a variety of complex medical needs as well as providing primary care.
The new Harlyne J. Norris Cancer Research Tower and Zilkha Neurogenetic Institute provide state-of-the-art facilities for important scientific discovery. With more than $135 million in total federal research support, the Keck School ranks among the top U.S. medical schools in federal funding. Research programs in stem cell/regenerative medicine, cancer, genetics, neurogenetics, preventive medicine, transplantation medicine, bioengineering and other key areas have attracted national recognition.
In the educational arena, the Keck School of Medicine is at the forefront of medical education, with an integrated, modern curriculum. Keck was among the first medical schools to adopt Introduction to Clinical Medicine courses for first-year students, providing real-world experience in patient care from the start of the medical school career.
