USC Marshall School of Business

The USC Marshall School of Business annually hosts the largest undergraduate case competition in the world, the Marshall International Case Competition. In 2008, 30 schools from five continents converged at USC to tackle a thorny business question: How should the Los Angeles Times restructure itself to deal with the rapid changes in its business model and economic opportunities? With its international student body and strategic location at the gateway to the booming Pacific Rim economy, USC's Marshall School of Business focuses on international business in all its aspects, providing course work in accounting, finance, marketing, management, and the management of information systems and operations.

Founded in 1920, USC Marshall is one of the nation's oldest and most prominent business schools. In 1998, it became the Marshall School of Business in recognition of a $35 million gift from Gordon S. Marshall, '46, an exceptional entrepreneur who built a billion-dollar electronics-distribution company. At the time, it was the single largest gift ever to any business school.

USC Marshall places a heavy emphasis on learning through first-hand experience. All graduate students are required to have international experience as part of their degree program. Undergraduate students also have access to numerous overseas programs as early as their freshman year, including study-abroad programs, international internships and week-long overseas visits that are combined with intensive pre-trip class work focused on the economy, business practices, language and history of the country to be visited.

Educating students to navigate the global economy and to build an innovative and entrepreneurial mindset is not enough, however. USC Marshall places a premium on helping students understand the role and relevance of business in society. Issues of corporate social responsibility, workplace ethics, economic sustainability and community service are a key part of USC Marshall.

USC Marshall awards two bachelor's degrees, four additional bachelor's degrees as joint programs, six master's degrees (including five M.B.A. programs, 12 M.B.A. dual-degree programs, and two accounting degrees), and the Ph.D. degree. USC Marshall includes: the Leventhal School of Accounting; the Lloyd Greif Center for Entrepreneurial Studies; the Center for Management Communication; and the departments of Finance and Business Economics; Information and Operations Management; Management and Organization; and Marketing.
